Ottawa County Timeline 1812, Sep 29 - The first skirmish of the War of 1812 on Ohio soil was fought in what is now Danbury Township 1813, Sep 10 - Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry defeated and captured a British squadron of warships in the Battle of Lake Erie 1822 - The Marblehead Lighthouse begins operation with Benijah Wolcott as its first keeper 1835, Oct 12 - The Village of Hartford, later Oak Harbor, is platted 1840, Mar 6 - Ottawa County is formed from portions of Sandusky, Erie and Lucas counties 1845 - St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Danbury is founded 1850 - Benton Township is formed form portions of Harris Township 1852 - The Toledo, Norwalk and Cleveland Railroad begins service across the western part of the county 1861 - Put-In-Bay Township is formed from portions of Van Rensselaer Township 1862 - Trinity United Church of Christ is founded at Elliston 1863, Mar 27 - The Village of Hartford is renamed Oak Harbor 1864, Sep - St. Paul's Episcopal Church - Put-In-Bay - is founded 1869 - The Village of Genoa is incorporated 1871 - The Village of Oak Harbor is incorporated 1877 - The Village of Put-In-Bay is incorporated 1888, Jul 9 - Allen Township is formed from portions of Clay Township 1891, Jan 2 - The Village of Marblehead is incorporated 1901, May 20 - The Ottawa County Courthouse in Port Clinton is dedicated 1915, Jun - The Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial is opened to the public 1923 - St. Mark's Lutheran Church is founded at Graytown This site (c) 2005-2017. |
